West Byfleet Area Guide

West Byfleet is a popular village as it is really well serviced in its own right but also offers a fast link rail service to London Waterloo in less than half an hour.

West Byfleet station first opened in 1887 and thereafter the village saw much development soon establishing its own economy independent of being a commuter village. The parish of West Byfleet was formed in 1917. The village is bounded to the north by the Basingstoke Canal and to the east by the M25 and the Wey Navigation Canal. It is just 18 miles from London Heathrow and equidistant between the business parks of Woking and Brooklands.

This quintessentially English village has a whole host of amenities ranging from a largeWaitrose supermarket in the centre of the village which was built in 1989.  It also offers a variety of shops and services such as hairdressers, beauticians, pubs and a large range of eateries ranging from takeaways to coffee shops and an impressive amount of quality restaurants offering a variety of cuisines such as British, Italian, Indian and Chinese.

In recent years it has been the subject of much redevelopment including new retail outlets, a new village square, flats and family homes.

It’s a family orientated area with an excellent mix of flats and well built houses.   Many of the original Tarrant built homes are also still present in all their glory unlike neighbouring areas where they were sadly to the most part demolished.  The area also offers several reputable state schools which coupled with its accessibility and local amenities makes it really popular with young families.
